Care for Puppies & Kittens
When a new puppy or kitten is introduced into your home, it is an exciting time! The newest member of the family can't help but bring a smile to everyone's face.
As fun as a new kitten or puppy may be, there are also a number of serious health matters which need to be taken care of over the course of their first year.
Your Santa Clarita vet will develop a customized plan to meet your pet's needs over the course of their first year and will make sure that you receive lots of guidance and support throughout the process.
Your Pet’s First Appointment
Puppies should have their first veterinary appointment around 6 weeks old. Kittens should have theirs at about 8 weeks.
During your initial veterinary visit, your new pet will receive a complete physical exam in order to determine its overall health. Your vet will also keep an eye out for signs of congenital defects and parasites.
We will also make sure to give your pet medications for roundworms and hookworms as well as their first rounds of kitten and puppy vaccinations.

For kittens, we will finally conduct blood tests to check them for feline leukemia and immunodeficiency virus.

Follow-up Appointments
Puppies and kittens should attend three to four veterinary appointments between the ages of 6 and 16 weeks. These visits allow our vets to assess your kitten and puppy's health and give them vaccines on schedule to ensure their lifelong health.
